20th Working on your deep seat, and SPRING CLEANING!:) First day of spring! Please bring a snack to share, work gloves, and work clothes. We will be riding, and cleaning.

About 4-H
4-H is the youth development program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
4-H is a learning-by-doing program for kids. Currently, more than 20,000 Maine youth participate in 4-H activities. 4-H offers a wide variety of programs and projects in these categories:
- Youth in Governance
(Citizenship & Leadership)
- Healthy Lifestyles
- Science, Engineering & Technology
(Including a wide variety of animal science programs)
- Earth Connections & Sustainable Living
How much does it cost to be in 4-H?
Almost all of the cost to participate is provided by federal, state and county tax dollars. In addition, 4-H Youth Development programs receive additional funding from The Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation, and other foundations, organizations and agencies. A variety of fundraising activities also provide financial support.
How are programs delivered?
In addition to clubs, kids can participate in special-interest groups, overnight camping, day camps, school enrichment and after-school programs.

AJ
Has been working on or rather with all aspects of the horses. AJ is working with Arizona and her sled, balance, and learning the enjoyments of barn management. Confident caring handler of all the horses.
Bryanna

Learning that horses are able to be a blast! Working on her confidence and showing us all what hard work can do for you. Taken a real bond with Dobbin, and has shown Sparky that things won't eat her as she thinks they will!
Emil

Super hard worker, likes to see the barn clean, along with the horses clean too! Emily will be working on her 7 games with the horses, and building up the horses confidence. Emily drives Arizona in her cart very well, and loves to work with Sue.
Noah
Loves to work with Cash, but has recently taken to Moony. Noah is working hard on developing his natural seat, riding bareback! Noah has taken Sugar under his wing and is teaching him the seven games. This is a pair that respects eachother and understands that any pace of progress is acceptable.
Kerstin

Kerstin is on her way to Level 1 Parelli Partnership Program! Kerstin works well with any and all horses here at the barn, she is currently working on the seven games, especially with Arizona.Here she is on Sue, and she takes on Tavish! Kerstin is working on her Level 1 Parelli Partnership Program.
Kelsea
Kelsea is working on learning how to jump, ground manners on her horse Dragon. Fostering a knowledge of understanding and partnership. Her overall goal is to train TB horses to race.

UNMOUNTED MEETING FEB 14
FUNDRAISER FOR THE CLUB!!!! PLEASE BE PRESENT
We will be babysitting from 430-830 pm on Valentine's Night at Henry L Cottrell School. Members are to bring a dish to share for supper, winter clothes to play outside in, smiles, and patience. Set up will begin at 415pm, and clean up will be done by 9pm at the latest. SPREAD THE WORD!!
Unmounted Meeting Feb 20th 1pm
Jana Scotia will be here at the barn to talk about dentistry. She will have her horse skull and be floating Tavish, Zona, and possibly Tiny. After Jana's presentation and floating we will be going to snow tube as a group. Please bring family! Leaving the barn at 430... more details to come.
UNMOUNTED MEETING FEB 22 SKIJORING!!!!
Meet at the barn 10am, we will be carpooling to 63 Justin Merril Rd, Buxton ME. Horses will be pulling people on ski's....If you would like to participate, please call LEAH LIBBY 207-838-6960 to register, and let Katherine know that you are planning on participating. ( We want to take many pictures of this!~)
Mounted Meeting... or rather horse included March 7th 10:30am
Level 1 on line introduction, work session, and clean up ring, fencing, and tack area. This will be practice for the 21st meeting.
Meeting Mounted... or rather horse included! March 21st
Level 1 on line testing, anatomy, and conformation, tack identification.
We will be video taping the Level 1 and looking at them as a group. Then we will be discussing each of the horses conformation both the positives and the negatives. Please bring a snack. Meeting starts at 1030, and will end around 2.
Unmounted Meeting April 4th 9:30-5pm
Grand opening of Tractor Supply in Augusta, our club will be bringing horses there to allow people the opportunity to touch, groom, see, and enjoy the different breeds of horses. People can even buy horse treats to feed the horses. All members please be ready to pack horses up at the barn at 930 am. Club earns $250 for participating in this event..... Club raised $500 for the rainy day....way to go kids!

Showmanship Patterns, Trail Class, and what a judge is looking for. Conformation, anatomy, and gait analysis.
Unmounted Meeting May 2nd
Meet at the barn 9 am, we will be going to Litchfield to watch the Maine Trail Riders Spring Fun Show, this has barrels and games. Please be aware that I have only three seats, and that carpooling is needed. Any Takers? This is an opportunity to see the other side of showing or rather gaming!
Unmounted Meeting/Fundraiser May 16th 7am-12pm
We will be selling manure and more at the May Faire at Cumston Hall in Monmouth. ( Flower sale) This will include helping the "Friends of Cumston Hall" set up the tables, flowers, helping customers with their orders, and baging manure. Please bring work clothes, gloves, smiles, and positive attitudes. This is community service. Please be at Cumston Hall by 7am or arrange a time block with Katherine
Unmounted Meeting May 17th
Team Penning at OK Corral in Leeds. We will be going as a group to watch and learn about Team Penning. Car pooling needed! Meet at the barn at 9am, head over and watch until 12pm. If there is anyone that would like to then Pen there is a practice starting at 2pm, cost is $30/ unlimited runs. Feel free to come back and watch friends ride! ~~~~~To Rainy this morning, I'll be leaving barn at 3pm to watch this afternoon's practice session.~~~
Mounted Meeting/ Parade May 25th
Memorial Day Parade, Right here in town! Lead, drive, ride, or whatever.... Monday morning at the barn 8 am, groom and get ready. There will not be a F16 over us this year! Sign up at the barn for the horse you would like to take, first come first serve basis.
Unmounted Meeting May 30th
We will be going to Windsor Fairgrounds, to learn about working draft horses. Leave the barn at 10am, bring money for lunch, and be ready for the big horses! Horses will be plowing, scooting, logging and showing in showmanship! Carpooling Needed

May 30th the club went to Windsor Fairgrounds to see the draft and pony club members scoot, drive, and hook up the big horses! We were all treated to a wonderful opportunity to drive Barney and Bob... what a sweet set of drafts! Thanks so much!

Sun shining, birds singing, and clip clop of horses hooves on the pavement led the way to Cumston Hall where we lined up to be in the parade. This year we were blessed with great weather and a good group of riders and handlers. The horses are all glittered up, including their matching saddle pads, ears, necklaces, hooves, and mane dangles.
Mounted Meeting June 13th
St Jude Trail Ride Starts at the barn 10 am (this means be ready to go by 10 am....)
Followed by pot luck BBQ. Bring Pledge sheets and Pleges to the barn. The group raised $347!! Way to go!
4H Meetings September
13th at 5pm Bring a potluck dinner dish to share, we will be going over the years meeting dates, Equine Affaire Trip, Halloween Exstravaganza, Christmas Parade, Team Penning, Record Keeping, Sledding, and a trip to Ireland!

26th @ 8am We will be offering "Nail in a Bale" for the visitors of AppleFest. Nail in a Bale is when people pay to pull out nails from a bale of hay. $.25/nail or 5 for a $1. People will be hoping to pull out the "painted" nail, if a person pulls the "painted" nail out then they will win one of four baskets full of prizes!
Please bring with you a drink, layered clothes, money or lunch, and a smile!
4H Meeting October:
3rd Trail Ride in Monmouth..... this will be with people from all over the state! Trail locations and times will be discussed at previous meeting. To be able to ride in this you must have been to lessons regularly, and have demonstrated that you are able to follow directions from the trail boss, stop, walk, and trot under control, saddle up, watch, and mount up without much help from Katherine. To reserve your spot please talk to Katherine and to match up with the appropriate horse combo. ****Looks like the plan is to hit Mt Pisgah, feel free to hike up and meet us at the top!*** Not sure if it looks like rain for the weekend. I'll keep you posted!
31st Horse Exstravaganza at 230pm! This is it, you will be showcasing all that you have learned for family and friends! Musical rides with costumes, pumpkin carving, pot luck dinner, and then trick or treating! What a way to spend Halloween! We have been given the go ahead to use a very nice sound system~ let's keep the practice going guys!

Super job Gouls and Gals! Wonderful demonstrations and costumes by all! Look for slideshow of all participants up this week. Here we have the scarecrow (Cash), Dorothy (Amelia), Tin Man (Tavish), and the Lion (Carter). Yes, those are real overalls on Cash, what a super horse.
4H Meetings November
14th: Trip to the Equine Affaire! Leaving Sat morning, home Sunday night. Fantasia musical ride to watch Sat night, and shop till we drop on Sunday! This is a family event.... please plan to come with us, visit equineaffaire.com for more info!
21st: Driving Challenge/ Holiday parade costuming 10:30 am until 1. Bring a snack to share please. We will be driving from zones 3,4,5, and hitching to an object. Brush up on the games, as well as the zones! Let's see how many can drive one or two horses together! Dress in Layers.
4H Meetings December:
5th CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY PARADE this will be in Winthrop and it is at night. We will be getting horses ready starting at 130pm. Trailering them to the new Hannaford, walking them down the road and then loading them up to come home. This is a cold time and by walking we stay warm:) Horses will be decorated with glitter, holiday necklaces, santa or reindeer hats, and tree skirts that have been decorated by 4H members. We do have to ask friends to trailer the horses, so please be prepared to offer a few dollars in "gas" for those trailering the horses that your children use. (Thank you.)

Holiday Parade went very smoothly! I think that all the members had a blast, I know we had lots of positive comments on how friendly and well mannered the horses were. Kudos and THANK YOU to all that helped, walking, trailering, supporting, and picture taking! (Please email me pics that you have.)

16th North East Horseman's Conference
Meet at the barn 1030am, then off to Augusta Civic Center. Lunch will be together at Great Wall Buffet at 1-130ish. Parents will be carpooling, money is needed to get into show, and recommended for spending.
